Getting that effortless beach wave look isn’t always quite as “effortless” as people make it seem. The point of beach waves is took like you were just swept away out of the ocean by a sweet summer wind and Prince Eric from The Little Mermaid is just waiting for you in his white, billowing shirt. And as rumor has it, some girls in a far off land are actually blessed with perfect mermaid hair. But as for the rest of us, we have to put in that extra work on our strands. So here are just a few ways to aid in making your hair just that much beachier without putting in as much work.
The Pony Wave
First, pull your hair alllll the way to the top of your head, as far as it can go and tie it into a ponytail. Separate your ponytail into two sections, one on your left side and one on the right. Then, begin curling one-inch sections of one of the halves of the ponytail. Make sure you curl away from your face for each curl. Repeat on the other half of the ponytail, still curling away from your face. Once the entire ponytail has been curled, remove the hair tie. Use your fingers to tousle the curls. To finish, make sure to throw in some salt spray (I recommend Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray) to add texture.
The Sleep Texturizer
Before you go to bed, make sure to shampoo and condition your hair. Comb through your hair and add texturizing spray. Then tousle your hair with your fingers. When your hair is no longer soaking wet, split your hair into two or three sections. If you can, French braid each part of your hair from the tip top to bottom. Sleep on it. When you wake up, take out both braids and add salt spray.
The Salty Scrunch
Again, salt spray is the key ingredient. Spray some salt spray onto wet or damp hair, and the cup some ends in your hand and scrunch all throughout your hair. You can either let it air dry or use a diffuser. If you want to, curl a few random pieces of hair to add extra curls. But don’t do the whole head; the key is to make it look undone!
And there you have it. How to get beach waves sans ocean water.
